Wayne Rooney returned to the United team, coming on in the 56th minute against Wigan today, to a generous round of applause from the United faithful, many of which haven’t forgiven the striker for his Contract Fiasco.
While Rooney’s return was welcoming, it was new signing Javier Hernandez who scored having coming on in the 65th minute with a superb diving header after a wonderful Rafael cross which secured all three points for United with Patrice Evra getting the opener on the stroke of half-time.
Wigan ended the game with nine men Antolin Alcaraz received his marching orders in the 59th minute for a second bookable offence, soon after striker Hugo Rodellega seen red after he lunged into a two-footed tackle on the impressive Rafael which was reminiscent of Nigel de Jong’s Tackle two months ago.
United are now joint top of the EPL after former United keeper Ben Foster performed heroics to keep Chelsea scoreless with Lee Bowyer getting the Birmingham winner mid-way through the first-half.
