Thierry Henry showed he still still has the golden touch as he helped the Red Bulls to a 2-1 win over the Rev’s last night
Renault’s new TV Commercial which features French striker Thierry Henry being a peeping tom has been banned from Irish daytime TV because it’s too raunchy for daytime viewing. Judge for yourself below.
Thierry Henry and his New York Red bulls team defeated Man City today in the Barclays New York Challenge by a scoreline of 2-1 today.
Big spending Man City were matched by their MLS opponents for the full 90 minutes and fell to an absolute cracker of a goal scored by right winger Dane Richards. The loss was City’s second in a row, having fallen to Sporting Lisbon earlier in the week 2-0. There is no doubt that Roberto Mancini will be unhappy with how the loss went down, considering the fact they missed a wide open goal right before the Red Bulls got their second goal.
Even though it is a preseason game, it shows just how much MLS teams are progressing. Beating a team like Man City – even without many of their top stars – is a great testament to the direction of the league and the fact that the American league is producing teams that can battle it out with the best teams in Europe. And when players like Thierry Henry hold a desire to play here, you know that the organization and structure is set up to attract the best players and continue to grow.
I must also say that I am pumped to see how the partnership between Henry and Juan Pablo Angel formulates. If they get it going, it will be potentially the deadliest strike force ever seen in MLS!
Thierry Henry may have thought he was escaping his Hand of Frog scandal by retiring from International Footbal and moving to the Big Apple to join the New York Red Bulls in the MLS.
But he may think again as Irish Pub bosses have declared he is not welcome at their bars, after he cheated the Republic of Ireland out of their place in South Africa. Henry may have thought he would be safe 5,000 Kilometres away but Irish fans are never to far away no matter where you are in the world.
One barwoman raged: “People are still very upset about it. It’s all over the news that he has come to New York. He would definitely be given grief if he tried to come in.”
Another barman at Rosie O’ Grady’s in Times Square said: ” If this guy’s going to cause trouble then he’s outta here. You say he’s a cheat? Oh man, were all into our sports here and thats not OK.”
Maybe Henry’s hand dribbling skills may get him a call up to the NBA but one thing is for sure he will never be forgiven for his cheating by the Irish.
After mounting speculation over the past few weeks, the New York Red Bulls have announced that their new designated player signing is Thierry Henry. Henry, who was the leading name being talked about over the past few weeks, will be presented to the media on Thursday. The 32-year old Frenchman was released from his Barcelona contract one year early in order to make the move. We also brought you a story a year ago talking about Henry’s desire to play in MLS.
“This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life,” said Henry.
“It is an honour to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team’s history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.
“Knowing Red Bull’s significant commitment to soccer locally and internationally, I am confident that my team-mates and I will succeed.”
I am personally excited for MLS as this marks another huge milestone in bringing the best players into the league. The move increases the validity of the game and I am sure Henry will help increase attendance figures. His partnership with Juan Pablo Angel looks extremely tasty on paper, and could set in motion one of the most potent strike partnerships ever seen in the league. On a personal note, this does not make me like Henry anymore. Even though the World Cup is over, I am still extremely bitter about not having my country here. But I do wish him the best of luck and hope he can set the league on fire!
Henry is expected to make his debut on July 22 against Tottenham at Red Bull Arena.
On June 25th 2009, a cast of pro athletes took to Nike Field in Sara D. Roosevelt Park in New York to take place in the Steve Nash Celebrity soccer game. This was the 2nd year for the event to take place. It is super cool as it brings together soccer players, basketball players, movie stars and a host of celebrities in a soccer game that is free for the public to watch. Among those that participated this year were Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, Raja Bell, Leandro Barbosa, Joakim Noah, Thierry Henry, Claudio Reyna, Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, Jozy Altidore, Juan Pablo Angel, and Gregg Berhalter. What a great line up! And here is a sweet video that puts together the day, well worth watching!
Thierry Henry has admitted that he would one day like to play in MLS, with New York Red Bulls to be exact. Speaking to the Spanish media, Henry stated that he has a desire to follow David Beckham and help advance the game in the US. Henry is 31 years old, and with 2-years left on his contract at Barcelona, the Frenchman could very well choose to move across at the age of 33.
Henry said: “Could I play for New York at some point? It could be possible in 2011.
“You never know but the truth is it is an option that could be likely.
“I want to stay with Barcelona for two more seasons and then I will leave.”
Personally, I would love to see the French star over here. He is one of the biggest and well known names in soccer. Think of the series of Gillette shaving creme advertisements; Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Thierry Henry. Henry is amazingly talented, he has speed and he can definitely score goals, all of which would make him an instant hit in MLS. Angel is probably one of the best strikers in MLS right now, if not the best, and he is below the level that Henry plays. What a combination that would be! With Beckham likely to leave in the coming year, we really need to see more big stars joining teams over here in order to keep the desire and passion alive within the league. It is the big name players that draw crowds and get people interested. Let’s hope that Henry does make a decision to play over here, and obviously it would be nice if we didn’t have to wait two seasons!
