Robbie Keane Scores Winner in LA Galaxy Debut

Irish international Robbie Keane’s LA Galaxy debut could not have gone any better, with the striker scoring his first goal – and the game winner – after only 21 minutes. Galaxy ran out 2-0 winners in the end, but Keane’s input was vastly important. The win sees LA increase their lead over FC Dallas to eight points heading into the last few weeks of the season.
Having witnessed Keane’s integration over the past week, we are 100% behind the fact that he will score many goals in MLS, and he will be a hit for the remainder of the MLS season!
Robbie Keane Unveiled at LA Galaxy
Earlier this week, we broke the news that Robbie Keane was on his way to Los Angeles for a medical with the LA Galaxy. Well, today he was officially unveiled as one of the latest DPs (Designated Players) to join the MLS.
Check out some video of the press conference below….
For the press conference, Keane was joined by Galaxy coach Bruce Arena and fellow stars Landon Donovan and David Beckham. He trained with the team earlier in the day for the first time and said it felt great to get a run out. Asked if he will play in tomorrow nights game with San Jose Earthquakes, Arena stated that Robbie would see substantial time – although they were going to monitor him before the game.
Keane reiterated the fact that he is here to “play soccer” when quizzed by reporters, who were trying to imply he was here for other reasons. I have no doubt that the former Spurs man is here to make an impact on the league and I have a funny suspicion that he will bang in a lot of goals – he is a natural goalscorer and has the right mentality to really succeed in the league! In terms of the Irish team, he stated that he intends to continue playing as long as Trappatoni wants him, and when with the national team he will give nothing less than 100%!

Robbie Keane is currently en route to Los Angeles in order to finalize a sensational move to sign with LA Galaxy. The Spurs striker, who has also played at Wolves, Inter Milan, Coventry and Leeds and Celtic, has been desperate for a new challenge in recent months and MLS seems to be the answer.
The fee for Keane is unknown, but his reported contract would be in the region of $8 over 2 seasons. Earlier in the day it seemed like Keane was poised to join Sven Goran Eriksson at Leicester, but the opportunity to play with David Beckham at Galaxy was to much to turn down – it could actually turn out to be a very smart move!
