Rep. of Ireland midfielder Conor Henderson scored a stunning 35 yarder as the Republic’s U-21 side beat Italy 4-2 despite playing with 10-men after Derrick Williams was sent off in the 37th minute for a professional foul, but Aaron McCarey saved the resulting penalty.

Anthony Forde was the second Republic player to see red for two bookable offences in the dying minutes, and Stephan El Shaarawy grabbed a consolation goal for the home side in injury time.

Italy however were guaranteed their spot in the European U-21 finals before tonights game while Noel King’s men were unable to nudge their way into a play-off spot despite the famous win in Casarano.
