Manchester United got the best possible start with Michael Carrick scoring inside 10 minutes, but while United created chance after chance without the finishing touch, Galatasaray gained confidence and worryingly for United created several chances of their own most notably hitting the cross-bar in the first half before De Gea had to bring off two World class saves to deny the Turkish side an equaliser mid-way through the second half.
Nani also had a chance from the spot in the second half to settle the tie but he wastefully missed that chance with his ridicoulous walk-up.
