The Championship season got under way Friday night with Ian Holloway’s Blackpool beating Hull City 1-0 the the seasons opener, but how many managers will be given their P45′s before the end of the season?
15 Championship managers parted company with their respective clubs last season in their pursuit of Premier League football and the unenviable taste for the money which Premier League Football brings, so these 24 men vying for a piece of the Premier League Gravy Train need to watch their backs!
Chris Hughton (Birmingham City) Hughton knows that even if your doing a solid job at your club it may not be enough to keep you from the sack as he found out at Newcastle last term when in mid-table in EPL.
Ian Holloway (Blackpool) Holloway is a cult hero at the Seasiders having brought the club to the promised land two seasons ago but with star-men Charlie Adams and DJ Campbell packing their bags for Liverpool and QPR respectively he may struggle with the height of expectation he’s brought on himself.
Gus Poyet (Brighton) Has Brighton playing attractive football but should the team not get the results, he could find himself first to gardening duty this term despite leading them to the Championship last season.
Malky Mackay (Cardiff) Their will be a great amount of pressure on Mackay to lead the Bluebirds to the Premier League, if it doesn’t happen he will pay the price for it with his job like previous boss Dave Jones.
Sven Goran Eriksson (Leicester City) Will need to lead the Foxes to the Premier League to keep his job having been bankrolled by Thai owner Vichai Rakariaksorn.
Nigel Clough (Derby County) Clough is in his last year of his current Rams contract with no assurances of a new deal unless he get’s his side to at least the play-offs this term.
Sam Allardyce (West Ham) The West Ham faithful will expect nothing less than a swift return to the Premier League and should he fail it will be good-night Irene.
Brian McDermott (Reading) Reached the play-offs last term and will need more of the same this term to keep his job despite doing a great job thus far.
Steve Cotterill (Portsmouth) Steadied the Pompey ship last term despite a paper thin squad more of the same should spare him the sack.
Darren Ferguson (Peterborough) Struggled in this division with Preston last season culminating to his sacking, getting second chance with the Posh who will be looking to stay in the division this term, touch and go whether they can though!
Nigel Adkins (Southampton) Expected to maintain Championship football for next season, should it all go wrong he will enevitabilly pay with his job.
Sean Dyce (Watford) Taken his first steps into management and will be expected to struggle to keep the Hornets in the Division.
Steve McClaren (Nottingham Forest) After his successful spell in Holland winning the Dutch Title with FC Twente, McClaren will need to do more of the same to keep his job at the Former 2 time European Champions.
Tony Mowbray (Middlesborough) Mowbray has a tough task getting anything more than a mid-table finish with the transfer kitty at a minimum, mid-table may not save him from the sack though.
Kenny Jackett (Millwall) Been at the new Den since 2007 with a reasonable amount of success, the highlight being automatic promotion from Division One in 2009/10, his season will no doubt be dependent on their results against fierce rivals West Ham.
Simon Grayson (Leeds) Finished last season one place off the play-offs in 7th, needs to better that finish to keep him off gardening duty come May.
Paul Jewell (Ipswich) Replaced Roy Keane at Ipswich last term and won back respect of the dressing room after Keane lost it before his sacking, will be a serious contender for automatic promotion.
Keith Hill (Barnsley) Will be his first stab at Championship football after impressing with Rochdale, will be lucky to keep the Tykes out of rel;egation battle.
Keith Millen (Bristol City) Has had a good pre-season but may have to settle for a mid-table position which should be enough for him to keep his job.
Eddie Howe (Burnley) Nothing less than the play-offs will suffice for the Clarets faithful having tasted Premier League football two seasons ago.
Andy Thorn (Coventry) Will be one of the favourites for the chop as his side are expected to struggle again this season, survival will be a huge success to the former Palace defender.
Dougie Freeman (Crystal Palace) His first season with the Eagles went well finishing 16th, needs to better that to keep his job.
Sean O’Driscoll (Doncaster) Has been punching above his weight for last two season’s, however unlike his opponents is more likely to be head hunted for another job than the sack.
Nigel Pearson (Hull City) Will be expected to mount a serious challenge for automatic promotion, can he get the Tigers to roar though?
