Shamrock Rovers re-wrote history as they won their first ever European Cup tie, beating Estonian Champions FC Flora Tallinn 1-0 at the Tallaght Stadium to-night.
Rovers first European Cup adventure came with a 6-0 beating at Dalymount Park in 1957 against Sir Matt Busby’s ‘Busby Babes’ who a few months later were destroyed by the Munich Air Crash.
Rover’s had gone 10 games, 6 defeats and 4 draws without a victory before to-nights tie, it was Stephen Rice who was the hero as he scored in the 34th minute to give them the lead but they have alot to thank keeper Alan Mannus for after he saved a penalty just 2 minutes before the breakthrough to keep Rovers in the tie.
