Wayne Rooney’s return to Goodison Park could not have come at a worse time for the former Everton Idol who was once worshipped by the Toffee fans before his medal laid-en move to Old Trafford in 2004.
Everton fans are set to make his life a misery come 12.45 pm Saturday afternoon and Police have called on extra staff to make sure the England striker comes to no harm. Some Toffee fans have never forgiven the England star for leaving Goodison Park for the Theatre of Dreams and have vowed to make Rooney wish he was at home sorting out his Marital Problemswith Wife Cooleen.
Here’s Five of the Ugliest returns in the past:
Sol Campbell: Campbell was the one-time darling of White Hart-Lane, that was until he joined London rivals Arsenal in 2002 on a free transfer which incensed Spurs fans who on his return to White Hart Lane cried Judas while also pelting the Arsenal team bus with missiles.
Frank Lampard : Lampard has had to endure hostile receptions from the Upton Park faithful every time he returns to his Former club West Ham, none more so than in 2008 when he was red carded in this fixture much to the satisfaction of the West ham faithful who will never forgive him for moving to London Rivals Chelsea.
Paul Ince : Another top-class player who turned his back on West Ham and had to endure similar receptions to Lampards. Ince didn’t help his cause after been pictured in a Manchester United shirt before he signed for the Old Trafford club.
Mo Johnston: Johnston had to endure the wrath of Celtics Catholic fans and Rangers Protestant fans when the former Celtic striker signed for the Ibrox club from French side Nantes, most hardline Rangers fans were outraged by Johnstons signing.
Luis Figo: Figo was taunted throughout his return to Barcelona after signing for fiercest rivals Real Madrid in 2002, there was bottles and cans flung at the once Barca hero even a pigs head was thrown at the Portuguese winger.
