David Weir became Scotland’s oldest player to play for his Country when he lined out for Scotland’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Lithuania at the age of 40 last night.
The defender who started his career with Falkirk in 1992 has made 66 appearances for Scotland scoring on one occasion against Latvia in a 2-1 win in October 2001.
Weir made his first appearance for Scotland in a 1-0 defeat to Wales in May 1997. And although Weir retired from International Soccer in 2002 after then manager Berti Vogts criticised him after a game, he returned to the Scotland fold when in December 2004 Walter Smith was un-veiled as the new Scotland Manager.
Weir’s other clubs have included Hearts 1996-99, Everton 1999-2007 and Rangers 2007-present.
