I think today is a fitting day – 4th of July – to pay homage to the hard work and determination put into the 2010 World Cup in South Africa by the US men’s soccer team. I have now been living in the US for 7 years and I have seen first hand the growth of the game in this country. This summer really was a turning point for how the rest of the world views soccer here. After last summers incredible run to the final of the confederations cup (and that victory over Spain) it was even more important for the US to have a good showing in South Africa to prove that it was not just a fluke.
And the team performed admirably, although I do still believe they are a better team than Ghana and missed a huge opportunity to progress even further. But after all is said and done, this team is paving the way for future generations, the next group of young players who are battling it out to play on the worlds biggest stage.
In the video below, some of those young soccer players give their thanks to team USA.
