2010 World Cup Hits

Just as Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney failed to perform their is always a few players who will take over their mantle as the best performers of the tournament there is only one player in my hit list which would have been on the short-list at the start of the season that being David Villa. Here’s my best six hits at the 2010 World Cup.

MESUT OZIL: Never heard of before the tournament outside of Germany but this guy was a breath of fresh air at the World Cup. Probably the most sought after midfielder after the World Cup Ozil set-up most of Germany’s attacks and made some awesome forward runs opening up most defence’s he came up against, probably my favourite player of the tournament along with David Villa.

DAVID VILLA: Barcelona signed Villa up for £35m before the tournament and it looks like one of the bargains of the century already. Spain were always a threat with him up-front and he showed us that he can score goals anywhere on the field. Joint top scorer of four with 5 goals scored.

WESLEY SNEIJDER: Continued where he left off at club level, after winning Champions League with Inter Milan this season. Went all the way to the Final before beaten by Spain, scored 5 goals also in the tournament, has alerted the big-guns in the Premier League with Manchester United leading the chase for his signature.

THOMAS MULLER:  I didn’t rate him before the tournament but he has proved me wrong with outstanding performances in front of goal most notably when scoring a brace against England. Golden Boot Winner with 5 goals account of him playing fewer games than the other three players who were level with him on goals scored.

ARJEN ROBBEN: Was injured for first game of the tournament but when he returned he was awesome for the Dutch. Showed us all that despite his age he still has lightning speed just ask Charles Puyol, should have scored in the Final but was still one of the Stars of the tournament for me.

DIEGO FORLAN: Was outstanding for Uruguay set up just as many goals as he scored joint top scorer and deservedly picked up Golden Ball for being Player of the Tournament. Showing us that although he may have been a Premier League flop not many Premier League players can say they were even mentioned as Player of the Tournament.
