An amazing betting coup was landed Monday evening at a little known Irish horse racing track called Kilbeggan which cost the bookies over £150,000. The horse involved was named D Four Seven and it hacked home for Irish Trainer Conor O’ Dwyer in emphatic fashion.
The coup was masterminded by the horse’s co-owner Douglas Taylor who hired the bettors from a recruitment agency, most of which were non-nationals, the bettors earned £30 each for their job of backing the horse just 5 mins before the start of the race. Taylor lost out on an extra £50,000 when some of his hired help who were given a note with instructions were unable to read it and handed it over to the bookies teller to read it the note said: “You need to be at the counter before it goes off to hand over the betting slip and say, I will take the price”.
Although the bet was legal had the bookies got wind of the coup they would have suspended their betting on the race which would be in their rights to do but thankfully for Taylor the other bets went through with the minimum of fuss to land him his £150,000 windfall.
As for the bookies they will earn it all back from the rest of us mug bettors who think they can get a big one like that of Taylor.
