The U.S.A ’94 World Cup Golden Boot, was shared by Russia’s Oleg Salenko and Bulgaria’s Hristov Stoickov, both 6 goals in the Finals. Salenko scored a record 5 goals for Russia against Cameroon in a 6-1 win.
According to reports, the boot could be sold for $500,000. Salenko is quoted as saying “I received a good
offer from the United Arab Emirates.
He also added ” I had a small business but after the global crisis everything is down and I need to payoff some debts. I’m not totally broke or anything like that so I don’t have to sell everything, but the offer was hard to resist”. It is thought that the boot will be on view at a museum in the United Arab Emirates if sold.
Salenko’s international career wasn’t the greatest, he played one game for the Ukraine in 1992, before playing 8 times, scoring 6 goals for Russia. All Salenko’s goals coming in the ’94 World Cup Finals.
Salenko also played with 8 different clubs in his career, his most successful was when playing for Dinamo Kiev where he scored 28 goals in 91 appearances. He also had brief spells with Spanish outfit Valencia and Scottish king-pins Rangers. He retired in 2001, after scoring 86 goals in 249 appearances at club level.
