With the 2010 World Cup in South Africa less than a month away, it was the turn of the potential hosts of the 2018 and 2022 to hand over their portfolio’s in their bid to be a successful candidate to host the Finals.
Australia, England, Japan, Holland/Belgium, Russia, Spain/Portugal, and the United States are bidding for both the 2018 and 2022 Finals, while Qatar and South Korea are bidding for just the 2022 Finals.
The Holland/Belgium stole a march on the other candidates in their bid as ex-Dutch stars Ruud Gullit, Johan Cruyff and ex-Belgium star Paul Van Himst arrived on Bikes to FIFA Headquarters with their joint bid.
Gullit who is president for the joint bid declared: “It will be the greenest World Cup ever with an environment protection plan the world has never seen before”.
“The games will be played in 14 truly green stadiums, the compactness of our countries is a great asset, due to the short distance the next game is never far away and we will offer the fans a network of free Public Transport and two million free Bikes”.
“In the low countries, everyone can go to the stadiums by Bike, just like we arrived this Morning”. he added.
David Beckham handed over England’s bid and said: “Football runs through our veins, we are all brought up on it”.
“As a player nothing could possibly beat playing in front of your own fans in your own country at the World Cup”.
United States captain Carlos Bocanegra handed over their bid to host the Finals after successfully hosting the Finals in 1994 and with so many Stadiums to choose from would be an ideal host nation.
Bocanegra declared: “A successful Tournament in South Africa this year will be important to the bid. America loves winners, we’re going to try to go down there and do something special”.
FIFA will announce the successful candidates on December 2 .
