Manchester City boss, Roberto Mancini is set to wield the axe as he prepares to bring in some new blood, one of which could be Liverpool striker, Fernando Torres.
In a bid to get rid of what he regards as deadwood, four players facing the axe are midfielders, Stephen Ireland and Shaun Wright-Phillips, defender Wayne Bridge and Forward Emmanuel Adebayor.
Stephen Ireland has only made a handful of appearances since the arrival of the Italian in December, making him the first to be axed, with Manchester United showing their interest in the midfielder, but City will be reluctant to sell to rivals United.
Wayne Bridge also faces the axe after failing to make an impact since his move to City from Chelsea in 2009 for £12m, and also has had injury problems and off-field problems, with the John Terry affair with his Ex- Girlfriend earlier this season becoming public knowledge.
Shaun Wright- Phillips is another who moved from Chelsea in 2008 for £11m and has also failed to make an impact since his return to Eastlands, and with Mancini playing Bellamy and January signing Adam Johnson down the flanks there seems to be no option for Phillips than move to get first-team action.
And finally we come to Emmanuel Adebayor who has failed to produce the performances he had at Arsenal, since his £29m move to Eastlands, scoring 13 goals in 28 appearances. When City signed him they expected at least 20 goals a season but that has failed to happen, making him another candidate for the axe.
Mancini is sure to strengthen his squad in the summer for an assault on the Premier League amongst other things, with numerous Players linked with a move to City, the one signing Mancini wants is Liverpool’s Fernando Torres, who may be out of reach for the Italian.
