Last week I posted my system on how to narrow down the field in the Irish Grand National. Today I’m going to show you how step by step. Here it is then:
First of all there are 30 horses to run in this marathon race at Fairyhouse racecourse on Easter Monday. What we are going to do is narrow down the field by ‘eliminating’ the horses that my system uses based on stats and figures from recent Irish Grand Nationals.
We start by eliminating horses that aren’t between the ages of 7 and 11. Why? Because recent winners have only come between this age bracket. So I check my paper and notice that there are three horses that don’t fit this criteria.
A New Story is 12 years old while Across the Bay and Beckett Rock are six year olds. With them eliminated it still leaves us with a massive 27 runners. Our next step is eliminate more hoses and here’s how.
Weight is a big factor in this race, also because not since Commanche Court in 2000, has a horse won carrying more than 10st 12lbs. So I check my paper again and see that there are seven horses carrying more than 10st 12lbs, so eliminate them also leaving us with twenty horses remaining. the horses eliminated are: 1. Church Island, 2. Siegemaster, 3 Equus Maximus, 4. Ambobo, 5. Oscar Time, 6. Dancing Tornado and 7. One Cool Cookie.
I personally don’t like backing horses in the National that aren’t reliable jumpers or fail to finish their races. As this shows that the horse is either a bad jumper or has bad stamina hence the reason they fail to finish their races. I check my paper again and find that there are 8 horses who have either fallen or are pulled up in their previous 4 starts and so eliminate them also.Leaving us with 12 horses in the field. The horses eliminated were :
1. Ballytrim-Fell three races ago
2. Pomme Tiepy- Pulled up in his last race.
3.Selection Box- Pulled up four races ago.
4. Bluesea Cracker- Pulled up two races ago.
5. Operation Houdini- Fell two races ago.
6. Flintoff- Pulled up in last race.
7. Whatuthink- Fell two races ago.
8. Officer De Reserve- Pulled up two races ago.
With twelve horses left in our field for the Irish Grand National, we have to either narrow the field further or pick out one of the twelve horses. Find out what we do in tomorrow’s report.
