With the Aintree Grand National just five days away here’s my little pointers on the most exciting jumps race in the world.
Before we go any further I have to tell you, I’m not a jockey, trainer or horse owner. I do however have a bet on the horses quiet frequently. I don’t claim to be an expert on horse racing, there’s very few genuine experts out there anyway. With that out of the way we can get down to business hopefully this post will benefit us all and put a few quid in our pockets with a bit of luck.
The Aintree Grand National is on this Saturday 15th April. Most people think of this great race as a bit of a lottery, but hopefully I can put that thought to bed once and for all, as I don’t particularly agree with this asumption. However you do need a bit of luck.
The Aintree Grand National is run over 4 miles 4 furlongs (there are 8 furlongs in a mile) with 30 fences to be jumped along the way. It’s one of the longest jumps race on the English race calendar. This race is the World Cup for jockeys most of which only dream of riding the winner of this wonderful race.
Here’s the facts that will hopefully help us to pick the winner.
1. Recent winners have won over 3 miles at some stage of their race careers. The last horse to do any different was Gay Tip in 1970.
2. Recent winners have also ran at least 10 times over steeple chase fences. The last to do it with less outings over steeplechase fences was Minnehoma in 1994, he had only nine outings over steeplechase fences.
3. The last horse to carry more than 11 st 01lbs and go on to win the race was Corbiere in 1983.
4. The last 15 winners have won a race with more than 11 horses in that race.
5. The last horse over 11 years old to win this race was Sergeant Murphy in 1923.
6. The last 7 year old horse to win this race was Bogskar in 1940.
7. 47 horses outside the 8-11 year old bracket have failed to win this race, 6th place been their best finish.
8. Tony McCoy has never won this race could it be this year, like Frankie Dettori winning his first English Derby last year.
If you fancy a bet on the National on Saturday follow these facts and you won’t be far away with picking the winner, or if you don’t fancy eliminating the horses with these facts Iwill be posting up my own picks this Thursday. Feel free to let me know if you have any good systems you use yourself for picking the winners of the National.
